                                                       Edgemont Basketball Association

Edgemont Basketball  Association (EBA) is a volunteer run, non-profit organization that provides basketball training and competition for boys and girls ages 7 to 19.  We are a member of the Calgary Minor Basketball Association (CMBA).   We have both highly competitive and purely recreational level teams and believe in equal playing time for all.

For players ages 7 to 14, the CMBA season runs from mid October until mid March with tryouts and practices for Edgemont teams beginning in early September.  Players 15 to 19 play an abbreviated CMBA season from late September to early December, and those who do not play for their high school teams can choose to play a second CMBA season from January to mid March.

In September, registered players are invited to a series of "evaluation practices" where they are placed on teams of players with similar skill and experience.  Teams are then registered with the CMBA to play other teams with similar skill and experience from across Calgary, Airdrie and Okotoks and Cochrane.  Teams play in a "seeding-round" during October to ensure they are playing teams with similar ability.  Teams then play in leagues from October to December.  Standings in this fall league help to redistribute teams into a new league of teams with similar skill levels that runs from January to March.  Teams playing at the most competitive level, "A", and "B1", are given an opportunity to represent Calgary at provincial competitions in March.

Practices and games take place in school gyms and therefore the practices and games follow the school's schedule.  If schools are closed for holidays or elections, etc.,  then games and practices are not held.  This allows families to take school vacations without missing basketball.  CMBA games are one hour long every Saturday and occasionally on Friday nights.  Edgemont practices are different for every team, but are usually one night a week for one to two hours, at a gym in the north west side of the city.

Basketball is a team sport so players are expected to attend all games and practices.  Edgemont Basketball normally registers ten players per team to maximize player participation at games and practices.  In return, players should do their best to attend all games and practices throughout the season.

Edgemont Basketball reserves the right to refuse registration to any player or family that does not abide by the rules of the CMBA, or has not respected the rights of other players, coaches, equipment and facilities, or other volunteers of Edgemont Basketball.  Edgemont Basketball also reserves the right to ask a player or family to withdraw from the program, without refund, for serious or continuous violations of CMBA or Edgemont Basketball rules by either players or other family members.  Players and parents are strongly encouraged to read and understand the material on the Parents and Players Information pages of this Website.

Our Mission

To provide a fun and challenging environment for children of all skill levels to learn and develop their basketball skills.

Our Goal

To develop sportsmanship, basketball skills, teamwork, lifeskills, competitiveness, and a love of the game of basketball in our players.

Our Players

Edgemont Basketball is a non-profit volunteer organization.  Our primary goal is to accomodate every player who wishes to play but the number of players accepted each year may be limited by the number of gym times available to us and by the number of volunteer coaches and administrators available.  In seasons where registration exceeds the number of teams available, priority is given to families who have volunteered for Edgemont Basketball in the past or currently, priority is then on a first come first serve basis.  We do not give priority to players based on ability.
